Unintentional Weight Loss

As people age, many find that they are losing weight – unintentionally. In fact, after the age of 65, it’s normal to lose 0.2 to 0.4 pounds of body weight per year (Web MD).

Unintentional weight loss can be dangerous if you lose 5% or more of your body weight every 6-12 months. Research shows that men normally tend to reach their maximum weight around age 55 and women at 65. They both begin to lose less than half a pound per year.

It’s important to remember that healthy weight loss in older adults should be gradual.
